The Challenge
The Plateau Problem: Great Content, Stalled Growth
The client had invested heavily in content — 180+ well-written articles on everything from kitchen renovation costs to weekend DIY projects. Despite strong on-page SEO and an engaged social following, organic traffic had plateaued at 15,000 monthly visits for nearly 8 months. Rankings were stuck on page 2–3 for almost every commercial keyword.
The home improvement vertical is competitive but not impossible. Unlike crypto or iGaming, most quality publishers accept home, lifestyle, and real estate content. The challenge was scale and targeting — the client needed a high volume of relevant placements on publishers with genuine traffic and topical authority in the home space.
Previous link building efforts had been ad hoc: occasional outreach emails, a few purchased placements from directories. The backlink profile had 45 referring domains, mostly low-authority, with poor topical relevance to home improvement specifically.

Strategy & Execution
90 Placements Across 10 Months — Topically Matched
We built a prospecting list of 420 home, lifestyle, real estate, and DIY publishers and filtered by organic traffic (minimum 10,000/month) and topical relevance. 90 publishers passed our screen over the campaign duration — 9 per month on average.
We deliberately avoided general business directories and generic lifestyle blogs. Every placement had to have at minimum one existing content category covering home improvement, renovation, gardening, or interior design. This topical match was central to the strategy — Google weights topical relevance heavily for SERP ranking signals.
Anchor text used a natural distribution: 35% branded, 30% partial-match, 20% informational (e.g. "kitchen renovation tips"), 15% naked URL. We scaled volume steadily — 5 links in month 1, up to 12 per month by month 6 — to mimic natural growth and avoid velocity flags.
