Great Product, Invisible Online

The client built a B2B project management SaaS for marketing agencies. The product had a 4.7-star G2 rating and strong retention, but organic search was producing fewer than 8,000 monthly visits — almost all branded. Non-branded keyword traffic was negligible.

The SaaS market is dominated by well-funded incumbents like Asana, Monday.com, and ClickUp, each with DR 70+ and thousands of referring domains. To compete for mid-funnel terms like "project management software for agencies" and "agency task management tool," the client needed a substantial authority lift.

The primary challenge wasn't content — the client had a healthy blog with solid posts. The bottleneck was pure authority: their backlink profile was thin (DR 24, 67 referring domains), and the content wasn't ranking despite being genuinely useful.

Content Cluster Authority Building

We mapped the client's content to three priority clusters: (1) project management methodology (high-volume, educational), (2) agency-specific use cases (high-intent, commercial), and (3) SaaS productivity (mid-funnel, comparison-oriented). Each cluster needed different publisher types.

For the methodology cluster, we targeted general business and productivity publications — think fast-growing newsletter-backed blogs and established business media (DR 45–65). For agency-specific terms, we focused on marketing industry publishers, agency blogs, and tech review sites. For productivity comparisons, we targeted SaaS review sites and software roundup posts with niche edits.

We ran outreach across 580 candidate publishers and accepted 120 over the 12-month period — a 20.7% acceptance rate that reflects both the rigour of our vetting and the quality of the client's content assets, which we leveraged as pitching material.
